On Saturday, September 9th, more than 50 people attended Salem Bike Vision’s first Family Festival to enjoy a range of games and activities. The event was hosted at Grant School Park in Northeast Salem and brought together attendees of all ages and experience levels to build community and discuss their visions for future bike infrastructure in Salem.
Activities included riding through a pop-up protected bike lane, bike-themed crafts, bike safety checks and repairs, and an optional group ride through the nearby Neighborhood Greenway.
We were thrilled to have several partners volunteer their time to make this event a success, including:
The Northwest Hub, who provided free safety checks and bike repairs.
Salem-Keizer Safe Routes to School, for helping school-age kids start the school year right with reflective gear and important information.
The Grant Neighborhood Association, who welcomed us to their area and educated attendees about their ongoing efforts.
Gary Obery, who led a group on a tour of the Winter-Maple Neighborhood Greenway, which he helped bring into existence thanks to his advocacy.
Bikeloud PDX, who lent us their ZICLA bike lane separators for a pop-up protected bike lane.
This ride was made possible through the support of PeopleForBikes. Our team is incredibly grateful for all of the community engagement and we look forward to hosting similar events in the future.
