Bond Updates
In November 2022, Salem residents passed the $300 million Salem Community Infrastructure Bond, gaining more than 65% of voter approval. This package includes everything from new fire trucks and stations, money for new library locations and affordable housing, earthquake upgrades to the Civic Center, and a much-needed cyber security upgrade for the City. It also includes money for Salem parks and many transportation projects. We here at SBV are proud that our community came together to let their voices be heard so that more than $20 million would go towards projects with safe bike infrastructure that is accessible to all.
Projects that are critical to making the Salem Bike Vision a reality include:
The completion of the Union St Family Friendly Bikeway which is the vital link in our East/West connection.
Marine Dr which includes a fully separated multi use path from Wallace Marine Park up to Harriet Dr NW.
The Pringle Creek Pathway which will connect the Riverfront Park to the Civic Center under Commercial St.
Urban upgrades on State St, Pringle Rd, Davis Rd and Fisher Rd all include new bike infrastructure.
Salem will also be getting its first cycle-track on McGilchrist St SE.
There are also many re-pavement projects included in the bond and our goal is to change the way in which we restripe these roads so that protected bike lanes will be included.
Bond projects will be starting in 2023 and continue over the next ten years. We are certain that we would not have received so much investment in bike infrastructure without your help. This is something we can all be proud about.
